Who needs it

Brazilians need a visa for the USA

For tourism and short business trips, Brazilians need a B1/B2 nonimmigrant visa and a valid passport. Brazil is not part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so ESTA does not apply.

With a valid US visa, it also becomes easier to add Mexico and Canada to the itinerary, which accept electronic authorizations for US visa holders, according to each country's rules.

Step by step

The steps of the tourist visa

StepWhat happens
1. DS-160Online form with personal, professional and travel details. Errors or inconsistencies here are the most common source of problems.
2. MRV feePayment of the US$185 consular fee per person, in reais, at the consular exchange rate.
3. SchedulingBooking the CASV (biometrics collection) and the interview at the chosen consulate.
4. CASVFingerprints and photo, usually a few days before the interview.
5. InterviewA conversation with the consular officer about the purpose of the trip and your ties to Brazil.
6. DeliveryIf approved, the passport with the visa is returned through the chosen delivery service.

In Brazil, visas are processed by the Embassy in Brasília and the consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Porto Alegre.

Costs and timelines

How much it costs and how long it takes

The mandatory US government fee for the B1/B2 visa is US$185 per person. Brazilians don't pay a reciprocity fee.

About the Visa Integrity Fee

A 2025 US law provides for an additional US$250 fee, the Visa Integrity Fee. As of September 2026, it is not yet being charged, with no start date defined. We confirm the rule in force at the time of your application.

Appointment waiting times vary widely by consulate and time of year. In periods of high demand, such as before major events, the wait can exceed a few months. That's why choosing the consulate strategically makes a difference.

  • Recent 5x5 cm photo (taken in the last 6 months), when applying in Porto Alegre

1. Hiring: we send the acknowledgment form and the information form, which you return by email or WhatsApp.

2. DS-160: with your details, we fill out and review the form, check the documents and prepare you for the interview, with support by phone or video call.

3. Scheduling: you choose the date and go to the CASV in the selected state. For renewals with an interview waiver, you only drop off the documents; first-time applications also include the consular interview.

4. Follow-up: we stay with you until the passport is delivered, including in urgent cases or doubts.

The decision to grant the visa rests solely with the consular authorities. BrazTrip guides and supports the process but does not guarantee approval.
